Edward Nycz left Rossford High School to enlist in the United States Marine Corps on Oct. 2, 1942 to serve his country during World War II. He returned to Rossford after the war, but never received his RHS diploma after leaving for war. During the City of Rossford Memorial Day Parade Sunday, May 27 Rossford Schools Board of Education Member Sharon Belkofer honored the Nycz family with a diploma for their father posthumously.
Mr. Nycz served in the Pacific Area from November of 1944 to March of 1946. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands from April through June of 1945. He participated in the occupation of China from November 1945 to March of 1946. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal in October 1945.
As a Corporal he was discharged from active duty in April of 1946 while receiving a certificate of honorable and Satisfactory Service in World War II. He returned to Rossford and married Anne, built a home, and raised his three children Jim, Joe, and Judy.
Mr. Nycz became a member of the American Legion and served as past Commander of the Rossford Post. He was the oldest veteran during the 2008 Memorial Day Parade in Rossford, less than a month before he passed away.
